Last weeks Valley Breeze article entitled, "School boards endorse reform-centered 'Race to Top' but union support iffy for multi-million-dollar grant" was interesting.

According to the 2008 RI Department of Education report, Cumberland had one of the lowest graduation rates (80.7%) for suburban schools. Bristol Warren and Burrillville were the only other communities with a lower percentage.

I think most would agree that our School Department could use all the help they can get. If used properly, an extra $1-$4 million would go along way to help address some of the issues the School Committee has identified.

It's troubling that the teachers union did not feel compelled to support the grant application.

This will be a story to follow in coming months.
